U.S. SEC Taps Gibson Dunn Attorney to Be New Enforcement Director

Reuters

Securities Enforcement Defense Team Chair Jessica Magee was quoted in a Reuters article on the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) appointment of David Woodcock, a former SEC official, as the agency's next enforcement director. Reuters reported that Woodcock will join the SEC on May 4 to lead the more than 1,000-person enforcement division at a pivotal time for the agency, following the resignation of Margaret Ryan and amid a broader shift in the commission's enforcement priorities under the Trump Administration. Ms. Magee, who previously worked with Woodcock in the SEC's Fort Worth office, said he is well positioned for the new role because of his experience and familiarity with the agency and its staff.

"David will strike a good balance between understanding and supporting enforcement staff, and also holding them accountable to ensuring they are opening and working matters worthy of investigation," she told Reuters. "I think he'll be a stabilizing force."
