From Surplus to Deficit: Colombia Has Lost Its Energy Cushion in Four Years

Energy & Natural Resources attorney José Vicente Zapata was interviewed by Dinero magazine as part of its lawyers' special edition about the challenges facing Colombia's energy sector, including the decline in firm energy, delays in generation and transmission projects, growing energy demand and risks of natural gas shortages. The article analyzed the measures the government should adopt to strengthen system reliability, including holding timely auctions, modernizing distribution networks and mitigating the effects of the El Niño phenomenon. José called for the government to formulate a plan that mitigates risks while preserving the continuity to projects that strengthen the country's energy infrastructure.

"The incoming government faces not only the challenge of attracting new investment, but also that of ensuring regulatory stability for those who continued to invest in the country despite the challenges of recent years, providing them with the conditions necessary to continue developing their projects with certainty and confidence," he said.
