Bill Sherman Named Chair of ABA Taxation Committee

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – July 12, 2012 - Holland & Knight is pleased to announce that Bill Sherman, a partner in the firm's Fort Lauderdale office, has been elected Chair of the ABA Section of Taxation's U.S. Activities of Foreigners and Tax Treaties Committee.

The committee, which has approximately 450 members, focuses on the U.S. federal income tax issues surrounding U.S. investments and U.S. activities by foreign individuals and entities and the repatriation of income and capital from the U.S. to those foreign persons. The committee also sponsors task forces to address U.S. tax policy issues affecting foreign corporations investing in the U.S. and nonresident, non-citizen individuals.

Mr. Sherman is chair of Holland & Knight's Tax Team and provides sophisticated tax planning for mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, joint ventures and investments. Mr. Sherman also has experience in a broad range of transactions involving U.S. investment overseas, foreign investment in the U.S., as well as international, federal, state and local taxation issues. He is recognized as a top practitioner in the area of Tax Law in The Best Lawyers in America and Chambers USA guides.

Mr. Sherman is a well known lecturer and chairs the New York University's Summer Institute in Taxation's Introductory and Advanced International Tax Seminars, and its Institute on Federal Taxation International Tax Program. He also serves as an adjunct professor of Tax Law at the University of Miami, Graduate Tax Program.
