Holland & Knight Adds Litigator John Kern in San Francisco
San Francisco (January 21, 2014) - Litigator John Kern has joined Holland & Knight as a partner in the San Francisco office. Mr. Kern focuses his practice on commercial, intellectual property and healthcare litigation.
"John has a strong background representing clients in litigation matters for the technology, financial services and healthcare industries," said John Hogan, leader of the firm's litigation practice. "He also brings a good deal of experience in handling government investigations, an area in which our firm is growing both regionally and nationally."
Mr. Kern has built an extensive practice representing companies involved in civil investigations brought by the U.S. Department of Justice and state attorney general offices. He has defended companies facing civil investigations for matters ranging from securities fraud to violations of the False Claims Act.
"The opportunity to help Holland & Knight's litigation group expand its representations in healthcare and white collar investigations is really appealing. I also hope to use my experience in litigation within the financial services companies to increase the firm's profile in that industry," said Mr. Kern.
Mr. Kern received a J.D. degree from Cornell Law School, an M.A. degree from the University of Virginia and a B.A. degree from Grinnell University. Prior to beginning his career as a lawyer in private practice, Mr. Kern worked for the Department of State, U.S. Trade & Development Agency in Washington, D.C. Most recently he was a partner at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips.
