Securities and Corporate Litigator Martin Seidel Joins Holland & Knight in New York
NEW YORK (July 12, 2021) – Holland & Knight has added securities and corporate litigator Martin Seidel as a partner in its New York office. Mr. Seidel previously was a partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher. Prior to joining Willkie, he was chair of the corporate litigation practice at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft.
Mr. Seidel has more than 30 years of experience in securities and corporate litigation and arbitration, with an emphasis on corporate control contests, transaction-related securities and shareholder litigations, multiparty class actions and derivative litigations. He regularly advises on litigation matters related to mergers and acquisitions, securities laws, corporate accounting and disclosure, and corporate governance. His clients include Fortune 500 companies, leading financial institutions, corporate boards, directors, senior executives and large institutional investors.
Mr. Seidel has tried cases before state and federal courts throughout the United States as well as arbitral tribunals around the world. He has handled investigations before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Federal Trade Commission, and by state and federal prosecutors and state attorneys general across the country.
"Martin's reputation as an outstanding corporate litigator extends far beyond New York City," said John Toriello, leader of Holland & Knight's New York and Philadelphia Litigation Group. "He is particularly well known for his experience in shareholder disputes in publicly traded companies and other litigation that may arise from M&A activity. He also is highly regarded by hedge funds and private equity funds for his counsel to the boards of multiple portfolio companies. This will be of great value to our clients in the industry due to the continuing prevalence of reverse mergers, M&A activity, shareholder activism and the recent use of SPACs to bring companies public."
"Holland & Knight offers the perfect mix for my practice – a highly ranked corporate group and a world-class litigation team," said Mr. Seidel. "I look forward to working with the firm's corporate lawyers to counsel clients during the course of a transaction or when a dispute may be developing but has not yet turned to litigation. I also expect there to be synergies between my practice and the firm's data security and privacy practice as I deal with corporate governance and risk issues for clients."
Mr. Seidel received a J.D. degree from Columbia Law School and a B.A. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a published author and frequent speaker on matters of corporate governance, securities litigation, directors and officers insurance, and complex litigation.
