Holland & Knight Partner and Former Congressman Ed Perlmutter Honored with Public & Community Service Medal by Colorado Governor Polis

DENVER (February 1, 2023) – Holland & Knight Partner and former Congressman Ed Perlmutter was presented with the Public & Community Service Medal by Colorado Governor Jared Polis and CiviCo, a nonprofit that cultivates civic-minded leaders. The annual event was established in 2015, and the medals, which are inspired by the Presidential Medal of Freedom, represent the highest honor recognizing significant contributions to communities across Colorado. The event was held on January 26 at the History Colorado Center in Denver.

Mr. Perlmutter served in an elected capacity in the state of Colorado for 25 years, first as a state senator and more recently as the U.S. Representative for Colorado’s Seventh Congressional District. Born and raised in Jefferson County, he has dedicated his life’s work to the community. Mr. Perlmutter was elected as a Colorado state senator for the 20th district from 1995 to 2003 and subsequently to the U.S. House of Representatives. During his 16 years in Congress, he worked on issues as diverse as veterans’ care to attempting to launch a human mission to Mars by 2033.

His leadership has impacted the state of Colorado immensely, including introducing 68 bills in his first seven terms. Mr. Perlmutter's focus on developing and disseminating renewable energy technology made him a natural fit for a congressman whose district includes the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Mr. Perlmutter joined Holland & Knight at the beginning of 2023 as a government relations attorney and general practitioner in the firm's Denver and Washington, D.C., offices and is a member of the Public Policy & Regulation Group.
