Sara Peters Brings Appropriations and Automotive Industry Experience to Holland & Knight's Public Policy & Regulation Group
WASHINGTON (November 21, 2024) – Holland & Knight has strengthened its Public Policy & Regulation Group with the addition of Sara Peters as a partner in Washington, D.C. Ms. Peters has nearly 10 years of experience working in government and on Capitol Hill, as well as 10 years in the private sector focused on the automotive industry.
Most recently, Ms. Peters was the deputy staff director, budget director and counsel to the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations, where she advised the chair, members and Speaker's office during bill formulation and conference negotiations. Previously, she was deputy director for government affairs, policy and strategic planning for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In that role, she led Congressional affairs and served as a liaison to Congress and other agencies on emerging autonomous vehicle technologies, safety rulemakings and reauthorization.
In the private sector, Ms. Peters served as assistant general counsel for emissions, regulatory and settlement oversight with the Volkswagen Group of America Inc. from 2016 to 2018, where she spearheaded the company's efforts to reform U.S. vehicle emissions compliance. Prior to that, she represented several different automakers in high-profile government investigations and litigation.

Ms. Peters earned a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. degree from Mississippi State University. She is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
