Overview

Taylor Askew is a litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Nashville office. Mr. Askew focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, including non-compete and restrictive covenants, trade secrets, other proprietary information and associated strategies and protection. These matters often include injunction hearings and other pre-trial remedies, which eventually may save his clients time and expense.

In addition, Mr. Askew represents multiple healthcare companies with a wide range of litigation issues, including partnership disputes, intellectual property misappropriation, contract enforcement, regulatory matters and employment-related issues. His healthcare clients rely on him to serve in an outside general counsel role for all issues related to litigation.

Mr. Askew likewise has vast experience representing clients, including landlords and tenants, in commercial real estate litigation and commercial lease matters.

Representative Experience

  • Brought in as new counsel for a medical company in the midst of a contentious six-year litigation battle; established a new strategy that brought client's opponent to the table for discussions, resulting in an acceptable settlement for both parties and ended with the plaintiff interested in a new partnership agreement with the client; the two companies continue to work together and expect to generate more than $100 million in revenue over the coming years
  • Awarded summary judgment and received a multimillion-dollar plaintiff's judgment for a prominent hospitality and entertainment company in a dispute involving various licensing agreements for a historic music-based television program
  • Represented a dental managed service organization in a lawsuit arising out of an internal corporate sabotage effort; successfully secured injunctive relief that ultimately held the practice together and earned a sanctions award of attorneys' fees
  • Defends companies against trademark violation and trade secret misappropriation claims where the sought damages and relief would force the companies into bankruptcy
  • Represented a company in a dispute arising out of alleged sexual assault; successfully procured a settlement that did not require the client to pay anything out of its own bank account

  • Obtained numerous emergency, temporary and permanent injunctions enforcing restrictive covenants in employment and professional services agreements across the country, including in Tennessee, Florida, Texas and Indiana
  • Obtained a pretrial injunction on behalf of a prominent restaurant tenant preventing a landlord from altering a point of egress in violation of safety codes
  • Obtained a six-figure attorneys' fees award after proving contempt of court order
  • Obtained a multimillion-dollar plaintiff's summary judgment award for a television production company without taking a single deposition

  • Represented a tenant in a lawsuit for breach of lease agreement for failure to pay millions of dollars in rent; successfully negotiated an agreement for the tenant to purchase the building, with the purchase price crediting against the rent arrearages, and tenant remains in business
  • Represents multiple commercial space parks on all matters of disputes associated with ownership of commercial property
  • Routinely advises real estate developers and their attorneys on potential litigation pitfalls associated with particular deal documents
  • Represents utilities companies in eminent domain takings disputes
  • Represents general contractors in disputes with subcontractors
  • Represents high-rise landowners in disputes arising out of alleged personal injuries to building occupants
  • Represents landowners in actions to enforce personal guarantees of commercial lease obligations
