Overview
Maria J. de la Motte is a real estate attorney in Holland & Knight's Boston office. Ms. de la Motte focuses her practice on real estate finance transactions.
Ms. de la Motte represents insurance companies, banks and other commercial real estate investors in commercial mortgage loan originations, primarily credit tenant lease (CTL) financings. Ms. de la Motte also represents lenders and corporate trustees on behalf of lenders in a variety of asset management transactions, including amendments, construction-to-permanent loan conversions, loan assumptions, defeasance transactions and prepayments.
During law school, Ms. de la Motte worked at the Massachusetts Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance and served as a teaching assistant for first-year property. Additionally, she worked as a judicial intern for the Honorable Patti B. Saris of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
In addition to her legal practice, Ms. de la Motte serves as a co-coordinator of the Boston office's Women’s Initiative and coordinates the office's parents' group.
Representative Experience
- Represented an institutional investor as lender in multiple construction-to-permanent credit tenant lease (CTL) financings of shelters and permanent supportive housing residences in New York City, providing housing for a range of populations in need, including women, families and formerly incarcerated adults
- Represented an institutional investor as lender in a portfolio of permanent and construction-to-permanent CTL financings of outpatient clinics for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
- Represented an institutional investor as lender in the permanent CTL financing of a pediatric clinic and a medical lab for a large regional medical group
- Represented an institutional investor as lender in the construction-to-permanent CTL financing of the expansion of an existing regional distribution center for a Fortune 500 tenant
- Represented a corporate trustee on behalf of lenders in multiple defeasance transactions, including large multi-property defeasances
