Dara Lynn Freytag

Dara Lynn Freytag advises individuals, families and closely held business owners on sophisticated, tax-efficient estate plans, helping clients protect assets for the next generation, minimize probate and preserve wealth over time. Based in Boston, she counsels clients on multigenerational wealth transfers, business succession, gift and income tax planning, charitable planning, nuptial agreements and probate and estate administration.

Dara Lynn combines technical training in taxation with a practical, client-centered approach, translating complex tax and fiduciary rules into clear, actionable strategies. She designs wills, trusts and other planning instruments tailored to each client's personal and financial goals and regularly advises on tax-sensitive wealth transfers, including lifetime gifting programs and generation-skipping transfer strategies that help minimize exposure to federal and state estate taxes.

She also guides fiduciaries and personal representatives through probate and trust administration, from initial filings through post-death distributions, ensuring that legal requirements are met and family dynamics are respected.

For closely held businesses and their owners, Dara Lynn integrates estate planning with business succession strategies and long-term financial planning. Her background with the IRS Estate and Gift Tax Division and her experience in probate courts give her insight into both the technical and procedural sides of planning – a perspective that helps her anticipate challenges and structure plans that withstand scrutiny.

Dara Lynn is an accredited estate planner (AEP) designated by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils (NAEPC) and was elected to the board of directors of the Boston Estate Planning Council, whose professional development initiatives she actively supports. Dara Lynn also was selected to join the Professional Advisors Committee of The Boston Foundation. Before joining Holland & Knight, she was an attorney at a Boston-based law firm and previously practiced at a boutique trusts and estates firm.

Beyond her practice, she served several years on the board of directors of Marisa's Mission and currently serves on the organization's grants committee while also volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader.
