Robert Katzberg

Robert Katzberg defends individuals and financial institutions in high-profile white collar criminal investigations and prosecutions, helping clients navigate intense government scrutiny when reputations and liberty are at stake. He has been a prominent member of the New York white collar criminal defense bar for more than four decades and has played a significant role in matters arising from the cross-border tax enforcement controversy between the United States and Switzerland.

Robert's most public courtroom victories include serving as co-counsel to Mark Belnick, who was acquitted of all charges in the Tyco/Dennis Kozlowski prosecution. He also successfully defended Goldman Sachs Partner Patrick Murphy, a New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) "specialist" accused of participating in a scheme to trade ahead of customer orders.

Since 2008, Robert has represented individuals and financial institutions in matters arising from the U.S. and Switzerland international banking controversy involving undeclared Swiss accounts held by U.S. taxpayers. He has successfully represented dozens of individuals in IRS Voluntary Disclosure Programs and negotiated non-prosecution agreements with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for nine U.S. taxpayers who were ineligible for voluntary disclosure.

On behalf of financial institutions, Robert successfully represented six Swiss banks in the DOJ's Swiss Bank Program. His work for both individuals and financial institutions provides clients with perspective on complex financial and tax matters involving prosecutors and regulators.

Robert is also the author of The Vanishing Trial, an independent book award-winning examination of little-known courtroom realities facing today's federal trial lawyers.
