Overview
John Meadows is an energy and environmental litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Houston office who represents clients in complex litigation, regulatory disputes and enforcement matters involving coal, oil, natural gas and renewable energy. Mr. Meadows' practice focuses on energy and environmental litigation, regulatory disputes, mass torts and high-stakes federal court litigation. He has represented clients before regulatory agencies, state and federal courts, federal courts of appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Meadows advises producers, midstream operators, downstream companies and others in the energy industry in matters involving shale development, pipeline transportation and storage, environmental compliance and enforcement matters, environmental and nuisance claims, petroleum refining litigation, underground storage tank disputes, contract litigation, property rights, tax controversies, well-pad construction and development matters, and alternative energy projects.
Mr. Meadows has extensive experience involving biofuels, biodiesel, ethanol and other alternative energy production. Recognized with a West Virginia state award for biofuels entrepreneurship, he has represented utilities before regulatory agencies in Appalachia and before the Public Utility Commission of Texas.
In addition to his energy and environmental practice, Mr. Meadows has significant experience in commercial litigation, including financial services litigation, healthcare litigation, state and federal regulatory litigation, class actions and mass tort proceedings.
Mr. Meadows is active in professional and industry organizations and regularly presents on energy law, energy litigation, business litigation and regulatory developments. He also participates in mentoring and professional development initiatives.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Meadows was a partner at a regional energy-focused law firm, where he managed its energy litigation practice group and served as western litigation team leader. Earlier in his career, he practiced at a West Virginia-based law firm, concentrating on litigation and regulatory matters.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Meadows served as chief operating officer of the computing division of a technology contractor supporting the U.S. Department of Energy. His executive leadership experience provides a practical business perspective that informs his approach to litigation and client counseling.
While in law school, Mr. Meadows served as editor-in-chief of the Richmond Journal of Law and Technology and assistant editor of the Richmond Journal of Law and Business.
