Overview

Christopher R. Murphy is an experienced financial services litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Chicago office. Mr. Murphy offers practical, results-driven solutions to banks, businesses and financial institutions facing complex legal challenges.

With deep knowledge in consumer protection laws, Mr. Murphy has successfully litigated thousands of matters involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA), Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA) and other federal and state laws. He helps clients navigate high-stakes individual and class action cases, helping to ensure their interests are protected in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitration.

As a member of Holland & Knight's national Financial Services Litigation Team, Mr. Murphy has a proven track record of guiding clients through some of the most challenging and high-profile issues involving credit card company operations, financial technology (FinTech) and "true lender" challenges, auto finance and leasing, mortgage lending and servicing, and crypto exchanges, among others. His approach combines in-depth legal knowledge with a keen understanding of clients' business objectives, allowing him to develop tailored strategies that reduce risk, resolve disputes efficiently and achieve favorable outcomes – whether through early dismissals, strategic settlements, motion practice or winning cases at trial.

Mr. Murphy also advises clients in industries ranging from commercial real estate and energy to healthcare and telecommunications, helping them navigate disputes and litigation related to business contracts, bankruptcy, landlord-tenant issues, post-judgment collections and Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) enforcement. He is highly effective in resolving building code violations for commercial property owners in Chicago, helping clients avoid costly penalties.
