Overview
Joey Vazquez is a real estate attorney in Holland & Knight's Miami office. Mr. Vazquez focuses his practice on land use and zoning law.
Mr. Vazquez helps clients efficiently navigate approval processes and advance residential, commercial and mixed-use developments, working closely with development teams to strategically position projects for success within complex regulatory environments. He regularly collaborates with municipal staff and elected officials on Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP) amendments, zoning district boundary changes, variance applications and other land use matters throughout Miami-Dade County.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Vazquez practiced at a South Florida law firm, where he handled association law matters and advised clients on land use and zoning issues across various municipalities and counties. Earlier in his career, he gained practical experience through internships at a boutique real estate firm, a global leader in the alcoholic beverage industry and within local government, providing him with a well-rounded perspective on both regulatory and transactional matters.
While in law school, Mr. Vazquez served as vice president of the Student Bar Association, where he fostered engagement between students and alumni and collaborated with faculty and administrators to develop a mentoring pod program for first-year law students. He also co-founded the Regulated Industries Law Society, creating a forum for students to explore legal issues in highly regulated sectors, connect with industry professionals and gain practical insights into areas such as alcohol, cannabis and other regulated industries. In addition, he served as chair of the Campus Affairs Committee for the school's chapter of the Cuban American Bar Association (CABA), further supporting student initiatives and programming throughout the law school community.
Before attending law school, Mr. Vazquez served as a fellow for a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing clean water and sanitation to rural communities in the Dominican Republic, where he also assisted the organization in successfully navigating the state appropriations process for its local program. He previously served as a legislative aide in the Florida House of Representatives, coordinating legislation and working closely with policy and budget staff to track and advance appropriations projects while assisting Miami-Dade County residents with constituent matters involving state agencies. He also supported and coordinated numerous state house campaigns and local elections, further strengthening his understanding of governmental decision-making and the political considerations that shape public policy.
