Michael Zhang

Michael Zhang is a litigation attorney in Holland & Knight's Chicago office. A member of Holland & Knight's Legal Profession Team, Mr. Zhang focuses his practice on counseling lawyers, law firms and investors regarding comprehensive risk management issues, including legal ethics, lawyer regulation and the law on lawyering. Mr. Zhang also handles complex disputes and civil litigation involving licensed professionals facing high-stakes civil litigation and disciplinary scrutiny.

Whether counseling on conflicts, fee disputes, succession planning or professional responsibility investigations, Mr. Zhang delivers clear, actionable guidance grounded in the principle of risk mitigation. By coupling his deep regulatory understanding with an unwavering commitment to client service, Mr. Zhang empowers legal professionals to meet their obligations, mitigate exposure and practice with confidence.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Zhang serves as an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, where he teaches trial advocacy. He also regularly speaks on professional responsibility topics at national programs and industry events.

Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Zhang was a partner at a national law firm, where he focused on defending attorneys in professional liability and disciplinary matters. Earlier in his career, he served as senior litigation counsel at the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission – the lawyer regulatory body in the State of Illinois – where he investigated and prosecuted claims of attorney misconduct and developed substantial experience in bar regulatory proceedings.
