Connecting HBCUs to Federal Programs, Grants and Other Opportunities

Public Policy & Regulation Group members Shawna Watley, Elizabeth Noll and Micah Burbanks-Ivey hosted a webinar on federal grants and opportunities for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Ms. Watley provided a walkthrough of what is going on in Washington and lame duck priorities, such as hurricane aid and targeted military aid for Ukraine, as well as priorities for the Biden Administration. Mr. Burbanks-Ivey explained the types of grants available from several federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) and U.S. Department of Commerce. He also talked about opportunities for funding initiatives through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Ms. Noll touched on what is happening within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), including how to maximize funds to benefit HBCUs, tribal colleges and Hispanic institutions for higher education.
