Who's Next? Junior Lawyers and Pre-Trial Practice, Part 2
Litigation Partner Dan Small and Judge Douglas H. Wilkins discuss part two of how to involve junior lawyers in the pre-trial preparation process. Mr. Small and Judge Wilkins suggest using some creative thinking to give junior attorneys real experience, while getting client work done at a lower price. Some examples of this are holding mini-clinics to gain hearing experience, allow younger attorneys to argue the motions, and allowing the junior attorneys, who actually did the research on the case, to argue at the hearing.
Regardless of how senior counsel and attorneys provide their junior lawyers with experience, both Mr. Small and Judge Wilkins agree that pre-trial and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) proceedings provide many valuable opportunities for young lawyers to gain experience.
