Fraud in the Pandemic – False Claims Act Risk Under the CARES Act

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”) provides financial assistance (in the form of the Paycheck Protection Program and other relief) to assist all types of companies, including hospitals and healthcare providers. While this financial assistance provides relief to its recipients, it can also increase exposure to potential investigations and whistleblower complaints for violations of the federal False Claims Act.
