Preventing, Reporting, and Responding to Sexual Violence on College Campus – Landmark New Legislation in Massachusetts

Education attorney Paul Lannon authored an article for the Boston Bar Journal analyzing landmark legislation in Massachusetts that addresses sexual violence on college and university campuses throughout the state. The Campus Sexual Violence Act (CSVA), which took effect Aug. 1, 2021, is Massachusetts' version of Title IX, and although the two laws overlap in some areas, the CSVA also imposes additional obligations on institutions of higher education. In this article, Mr. Lannon breaks down the new obligations colleges and universities need to know, from periodic campus safety surveys to student and employee training, as well as explains where the CSVA duplicates federal requirements and what additional guidance can be expected.
