Trumps Economic Agenda Hinges on the Supreme Courts Tariff Ruling
International Trade attorney Patrick Childress was quoted in a New York Times article on the Supreme Court’s decision to review President Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to levy broad tariffs and the implications for U.S. trade policy. He noted that while the duties remain in place pending the Court’s ruling, the review injects major uncertainty for businesses and supply chains, with outcomes ranging from a reaffirmation of expansive executive authority to curbs that could unwind portions of the tariff regime.
"Part of the appeal of IEEPA for the administration is its flexibility and the speed with which they could impose tariffs," he said.
