IRS Plan to Deactivate Unused ITINs May Put Some With Legitimate Needs in Bind
The IRS's new plan to deactivate unused individual taxpayer identification numbers (ITINs) that is meant to address fraud could create major problems for foreigners who don't have a tax filing obligation. Tax Attorney Kevin Packman says there are other reasons a person might need an ITIN.
"When you put all of it together, I think it's an inconvenience for somebody that doesn't have a need every year," Mr. Packman said.
