Inside Port Tampa Bay's strategy to become gateway for cruises to Cuba

Port Tampa Bay officials are working to position Tampa as the gateway for cruising to Cuba amid normalized relations between the United States and Cuba.

"Cruise lines have a long history with doing on-island tours. It's not a reach from what they are already doing," said attorney Ron Oleynik. He added that these first cruises—which may begin as early as spring 2016—will play an important role in American politics with cruise passengers functioning as de facto democracy ambassadors.
