Boehner, McCarthy-Tied Lobbyists See Chances in Divided Congress

Public Policy & Regulation Group Leader Rich Gold was mentioned in a Bloomberg Law article on the opportunities that lobbyists expect to see from a divided U.S. Congress in 2023. Mr. Gold shared his take on having former staffers under Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R.-Calif.), the anticipated new House speaker, at lobbying firms. He believes that there are chances for legislative compromise due to the thin margins of a democratic-led senate and a Republican-controlled house. He also said he believe that the thin margins resulting from a Democrat-led Senate and Republican-controlled House will create opportunities for legislative compromise, and he offered his thoughts on using these lobbying connections at law firms.

"Is every company running out and making sure they have one of those firms on retainer?" Mr. Gold said of McCarthy-tied firms. "That's not how the town works anymore."
