Widening of Boyacá Avenue Under Debate
Environmental attorney María Camila Aponte was interviewed by El Tiempo about a case before Colombia's Council of State that could affect the widening of Boyacá Avenue in Bogotá. The court agreed to hear a lawsuit filed by the country's Ministry of Environment (MinAmbiente) seeking to cancel the environmental permit that the Autonomous Regional Corporation (CAR) of Cundinamarca granted for the project. The work has generated controversy because it passes through part of the Thomas Van Der Hammen Reserve. Ms. Aponte explained that the court will study the legality of the administrative act to approve the permit and that while the decision is pending, it remains valid. She also commented on the potential effects of a ruling against CAR.
"Yes there is a risk that the project does not advance, but it would also affect contracts for the financing and execution of the project," she said.
