Billions at Stake as SCOTUS Takes Up Hospital Case
Healthcare policy attorney Lisa Hawke was quoted in an AXIOS article where she expressed hope for a favorable outcome for hospitals in a U.S. Supreme Court case about Medicare payments, though she admits the decision's predictability is as uncertain as the election's outcome. The lawsuit centers on allegations that the federal government has underpaid hospitals catering to low-income seniors; these disproportionate share payments have steadily decreased but remain crucial for providers' financial stability and ability to serve impoverished communities. Ms. Hawke commented on the uncertain nature of the legal challenge.
"I'm hopeful that the hospitals prevail. But whether they will or not is as unclear to me as who's going to win the election," she said.
