Crypto Entrepreneur Claims Justice Department's Software Crackdown Violates U.S. Constitution

Digital Assets and Blockchain Technology attorney Andrew Balthazor was quoted in a Law.com article about Michael Lewellen's lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) challenging its interpretation of money transmission laws under the Biden Administration. Lewellen, a Dallas-based blockchain entrepreneur and creator of the decentralized platform Pharos, contends that the DOJ's stance could unconstitutionally criminalize software development and impede cryptocurrency innovation. Mr. Balthazor commented on the complexities of the case.

"Creating a non-custodial loophole for money laundering is also not a desirable result here. If there is a service that has a foreseeable criminal use that will harm people, then let's work together as a society to figure out the best approach to preventing that harm," he said.
