Tariffs Pause Creates Uncertainty

Reforma

Turenna Ramirez, who leads Holland & Knight's international trade practice in Mexico, was interviewed by Reforma about Mexico and the United States' negotiated pause on the application of tariffs and the implications for the business sector. U.S. President Donald Trump announced tariffs of 25 percent on goods imported from Mexico but decided to delay their implementation for a month after discussions with Mexican President Claudia Scheinbaum. Ms. Ramirez highlighted this is a common negotiating tactic for Trump, adding she expects a continued focus on trade matters.

"The way Trump tends to negotiate is like this, going to the limit, the extreme, any type of negotiation in which he knows that he has a negotiating margin," she said. "And in the last case, the risk and economic impact of implementing these measures is closely watched."
