Do Rebel Attacks Threaten Oil and Gas in Colombia?

Energy & Natural Resources Partner Inés Elvira Vesga participated in a Q&A with The Dialogue's Energy Advisor where she discussed the impact of rebel attacks on Colombia's oil and gas infrastructure. She highlighted the failure of the government's "Total Peace" strategy with the National Liberation Army (ELN), which has continued and even intensified its attacks, targeting oil pipelines nearly 1,000 times in the past decade. Ms. Vesga described the severe economic, environmental and social repercussions of this situation.

"The government is currently facing the consequences of the rearmament of groups that had previously been weakened, as well as the proliferation of other groups competing for control of territory," she said.
