Trade Talks Bog Down as Countries – and White House – Race to Meet July Deadline

Politico

International Trade attorney Patrick Childress was quoted in a Politico article highlighting how the Trump Administration's rapidly approaching self-imposed deadline for new trade deals is putting significant pressure on both the U.S. and its trading partners, especially as lingering tariffs weigh on the U.S. economy. He pointed out that this time crunch could result in agreements that are less specific and lack transparency as negotiators rush to announce progress before the deadline. Mr. Childress warned that these hurried deals may ultimately be less effective, raising concerns about their long-term impact on trade relationships and economic stability.

"It could be the case that we see less and less detail in these agreements as that 90-day clock starts to tick down and there's political pressure to sign more and more of these agreements," he said.
