El Espectador
Energy & Natural Resources attorney Milton Montoya was mentioned in an article published by El Espectador about the recent Corpoamazonia resolution that delineates an environmental interest area in Putumayo, Colombia, to restrict mining because of its significant impact on natural resources and biodiversity. Mr. Montoya explained that historically, mining titles were granted in zones with environmental protection categories, largely as a result of a lack of institutional coordination between the environmental and mining sectors, which has caused overlaps and social conflicts in the region.

"Without a doubt, mining titles were granted in Colombia at a time when there was some form of environmental protection category in place, within the framework of an absolute restriction or prohibition of mining activity," he said.
