The Government Wants to Eliminate Environmental Licenses for Renewable Energy Projects
Environmental attorney María Camila Aponte was cited in an El Espectador article about the possibility of eliminating the environmental license requirement for renewable energy projects of fewer than 100 megawatts (MW) in Colombia. Edwin Palma, the Minister for Mines and Energy, announced this plan at the end of May, adding that more than half of the projects that are ready to begin construction are stuck in bureaucratic processes and that streamlining approvals would help advance President Gustavo Petro's renewable energy goals. Ms. Aponte highlighted the positive effects of removing this step.
"It would promote the energy transition, it would make us a more attractive country for investment from companies in the region and it would generate confidence for investors who are already in Colombia," she said.
