Tariffs Could Surge on July 9 with 90-Day Pause Set to End. Here's What Experts Think Could Happen.
CBS News
International Trade attorney and former assistant general counsel at the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Patrick Childress was featured in a CBS News article about the impending expiration of a 90-day freeze on sweeping U.S. tariffs on July 9, 2025. As the Trump Administration aims to finalize new trade agreements with countries including China, the United Kingdom and Vietnam, uncertainty looms over which nations will face sharply increased import costs. Mr. Childress noted that countries will likely fall into three groups: those with finalized trade deals, those maintaining baseline tariffs as talks continue and those facing higher tariffs as a result of lack of agreements or non-cooperation.
"We don't know which trading partners will fall into which of the three buckets, or how many trading partners will end up in each of the three groups," he said.
