Booking Holdings Agrees to $9.5M Settlement in Texas 'Junk Fees' Lawsuit

Business Travel News
Consumer Protection Defense and Compliance attorney Anthony DiResta was cited in a Business Travel News article about Booking.com's $9.5 million settlement with the state of Texas over alleged "junk fee" practices. The state's lawsuit included claims that certain hotel fees were not displayed until checkout, and under the settlement Booking.com agreed to display such fees upfront going forward, without admitting wrongdoing. Mr. DiResta emphasized that regulators are prioritizing fee transparency and that similar actions are likely to increase across jurisdictions.

"The issue of hidden fees or misleading pricing is absolutely on the front burner for state AGs," he said. "This is a popular issue in both blue and red states, and it continues to be a focus at the FTC."
