Lawyers: Businesses Relieved as OBBBA Extends Sunsetting Tax Provisions
Tax attorney Christopher Marotta was quoted in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly noting how the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) delivers relief by extending business-favorable provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that were set to sunset, averting immediate fiscal and covenant pressures for many companies. He emphasized faster write-offs, particularly the restored ability to expense domestic research and experimentation incurred after Dec. 31, 2024. Mr. Marotta also highlighted looser limits on interest deductions and expanded qualified small business stock (QSBS) benefits for independent sponsors, which are boosting middle‑market deal activity.
"[M]ore and more people have gotten familiar and sophisticated with these rules and more keyed into taking advantage of these rules," he said.
