Trump's Team Puts $10B Drug Ad Market on Notice
Healthcare & Life Sciences Team Co-Leader Michael Werner was interviewed by The Washington Post about the newly released Make American Healthy Again (MAHA) report, specifically its call for innovation in the sunscreen market. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has not approved a new type of sunscreen in more than a quarter-century, and the U.S. is widely seen as falling behind other countries when it comes to sun protection products. Industry groups such as the Public Access to SunScreens Coalition, alongside lawmakers, have been pushing to modernize the approval process and lower barriers to market entry. Mr. Werner highlighted the weight of this aspect of the report and commented Congress could incorporate procedural changes as part of an update to the Over-the-Counter Monograph Drug User Fee Program (OMUFA).
"The language in the MAHA report is significant because it's a very public statement from the administration that they want to see a new pathway, or an improved pathway, to market for sunscreens in the U.S.," he said.
