What Trends Are Driving Colombia's Natural Gas Sector?
Oil and Gas attorney María Natalia Suárez Martínez was featured in The Dialogue's Energy Advisor, where she assessed Colombia's upstream outlook amid rising gas investment but growing import dependence. She noted policy uncertainty under the current administration, suspension of new exploration and production contracts, regulatory volatility and recent liquefied natural gas imports for domestic supply as key challenges for investors. Ms. Suárez added that she thinks the next government should restore stability by enabling new exploration and production projects, reviving pilots for technologies such as hydraulic fracturing and pairing a responsible energy transition with clear, durable rules to attract capital and bolster reserves.
"The upcoming presidential elections are crucial in the current context of the upstream sector," she said. "Colombia continues to be a country with significant energy resources."
