Dems Nab PSC Spots as Georgians React to High Utility Bills
Public Policy & Regulation attorney Robert Highsmith was quoted in a Law360 article analyzing the political shakeup at the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) after two Democratic candidates won seats in landslide victories. Speaking on the rising strain from data center-driven load growth and its effects on utility bills, Mr. Highsmith noted that commissioners will need to grapple with complex cost allocation and ratemaking choices as energy demand accelerates.
"[The issue was] relatively new for our commission, like everybody around the country, and it's something that the continuing incumbent commissioners and the new commissioners will have to wrestle with," he said. "The consensus seems to be that smaller residential customers subsidizing very large load customers, and the rate making details of that, that will be something that'll be a key focus."
