Big Law Lobbying Practices See Windfall of Work from Trump's Venezuela Policy

The American Lawyer

Energy attorney Jim Noe was quoted in an American Lawyer article about the uptick in businesses' attention toward Venezuela and subsequent increase in work for Big Law firms and lobbying groups. President Donald Trump asked U.S. oil companies to commit $100 billion for revitalizing Venezuela's oil and gas industry, piquing interest in investing or reinvesting in the country. Mr. Noe reported that law firms such as Holland & Knight are largely focused on government relations work at this point, engaging with the Trump Administration and guiding clients in meetings with federal authorities. What's been surprising for him, he added, is that inquiries have come from sectors far beyond oil and gas.

"We've seen clients across our practice groups, across our geographic reach, have an interest in exploring entering or reentering Venezuela," he shared. "That's from construction and infrastructure clients to private equity clients to, of course, the oil and gas sector, American manufacturing companies."

Mr. Noe also highlighted the firm's Venezuela Strategic Advisory Team, which combines litigators with international trade and commercial transactions attorneys to triage client questions and prepare coordinated, practical responses.
