Petro Government Decree Modifies Tax Calendar: What Taxpayers Should Review to Avoid Penalties
Tax attorney María Alejandra Pedraza was interviewed by La FM about Colombia's new tax calendar for 2026, modified by the declaration of Civic Day for Peace with Nature (Día Cívico de la Paz con la Naturaleza) on April 17, 2026. This commemoration creates a government holiday, which means that tax deadlines that coincide with it are automatically pushed to the next business day – in this case, April 20, 2026. Ms. Pedraza added that the change also affects the rest of the deadlines in April, recommending that taxpayers review whether their current obligations have deadlines that fall on one of the impacted days.
"The declaration of a federal holiday not only affects the deadlines set for that day, but also displaces by a business day the subsequent deadlines previously on the calendar for that month," she clarified. "It is important to verify with special attention tax obligations whose deadlines take place in April and, as always, try to file and pay before the last possible day."
