DOL Expected to Stay Wage Policy Course Under Deputy

Law360

Labor and Employment attorney Timothy Taylor was quoted in a Law360 article discussing what to expect from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) following the departure of Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer. Deputy Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling will step into the role of acting secretary, and professionals interviewed by Law360 predicted little would change in terms of the DOL's wage and hour agenda, saying they anticipate continuity across policy initiatives such as proposed rules on independent contractors and joint employer liability. Mr. Taylor, who served as a deputy solicitor of labor during the first Trump Administration, agreed that the leadership change is unlikely to disrupt the DOL's current direction.

"Keith is an experienced and steady hand, and he has been already handling a lot of the blocking and tackling within the building as is, so he should settle very naturally into the role of acting secretary," he said.
