IRS Seeks to Fire Lead Agent in Malta, Puerto Rico Probes

Tax attorney James Dawson was quoted in a Tax Notes article examining the IRS' efforts to remove a special agent leading investigations into alleged abuse of Malta pension plans and Puerto Rico's Act 60 tax incentives. The article called out questions surrounding the future of those enforcement efforts, even as scrutiny of Act 60 arrangements appears to be increasing. Mr. Dawson shared that he has noticed an increase in related audits throughout the past two months, corresponding to more inquiries from prospective clients.

"You can feel there is a much more aggressive posture [from the IRS]," he said.
