Individual Insolvency Filings Grew 76 Percent and Could Mark a Historic High in Colombia
Bankruptcy attorney Natalia Cuberos was interviewed by Valora Analitik about the increase in individual insolvency filings in Colombia, which grew 76 percent between 2024 and 2025 and could reach a historic high in 2026. During the interview, she analyzed the main effects of Law 2445 of 2025, which expanded access to this mechanism and introduced changes such as the incorporation of small businesses, the option to complete proceedings virtually and easing of several procedural requirements. Ms. Cuberos also warned that the rise in access to these proceedings could create greater challenges for the financial system, creditors and entities responsible for processing filings.
"Over-indebtedness remains the main trigger, aggravated by the economic aftermath of the pandemic," she said. "Added to this are the reforms introduced by Law 2445, which significantly expanded the universe of people who can use the mechanism."
