This Is How the 1991 Constitution Defends Everyday Life in Colombia

Labor and Employment attorney Camilo Cuervo was cited in a Vanguardia article on the impact of the 1991 Political Constitution on the daily lives of Colombians, on the occasion of the Charter's 35 years in effect. The publication brought together analysis from various jurists on the most significant milestones of the Constitution, from the transition toward a Social State of Law and the expansion of citizen participation mechanisms, to the consolidation of the tutela as a tool for access to justice and the recognition of ethnic and cultural diversity. Mr. Cuervo highlighted the real impact of democratic participation mechanisms and the change that the tutela generated in the Colombian legal framework, though he warned that decentralization continued to be an unfinished task.

"Practically all the participation mechanisms contemplated in the Constitution have been used," he said.
