Environmental Compliance: The New Strategic Risk for Companies
Environmental attorney María Camila Aponte was featured in a Gestión y Negocios magazine article about the evolution of corporate sustainability in Colombia and the new demands facing companies in this area. As she explained, environmental responsibility is no longer a voluntary commitment but rather a strategic obligation backed by an increasingly rigorous regulatory framework. She talked about penalties for noncompliance with environmental, social and governance (ESG) rules, the sectors under the most scrutiny and the most common errors businesses make when trying to implement ESG measures. She also commented on the role of boards of directors in environmental management and the effects of international treaties such as the Escazú Agreement.
