Tax attorney María Alejandra Pedraza was interviewed by Blu Radio about the deadline for owners of electric and hybrid vehicles to request a refund from Colombia's National Tax and Customs Directorate (DIAN) for the value-added tax (VAT) paid at the time of purchase. María Alejandra explained that taxpayers have five years from the date of the sales invoice to file a refund request, even when the certification issued by the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME) is obtained after the vehicle is purchased. She also noted that the certification may establish eligibility for the tax benefit and provide access to additional income tax incentives.
