MIAMI – July 28, 2011 – Marilyn Holifield, a partner in the Miami office of Holland & Knight, has been appointed a member of the Federal Magistrate Judge Merit Selection Panel by Federico Moreno, Chief United States District Judge.
The duty of the ten-person panel is to consider and recommend to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida qualified individuals to fill the full-time United States Magistrate Judge position in Miami, effective upon the retirement of incumbent Magistrate Judge Stephen T. Brown on April 11, 2012. The Panel will make recommendations to the court by November 4, 2011.
Holifield has served on the magistrate selection panel at the request of federal district judges of the Southern District of Florida in the past. Additionally, she has served on the Ad Hoc Rules and Procedure Committee for the United States District Court of the Southern District of Florida.
Holifield practices in the general litigation area, representing corporations in employment and business litigation, including class action employment cases, commercial and covenant-not-to-compete litigation. She has successfully represented clients as lead counsel in jury and nonjury trials, arbitrations and administrative proceedings.
