Allen Maines Named New Leader of Holland & Knight's Atlanta Office

ATLANTA (October 7, 2014) – Holland & Knight managing partner Steven Sonberg has appointed Allen Maines to serve as executive partner of the firm's Atlanta office. Mr. Maines will oversee the day-to-day management of the 35-lawyer office, while continuing his busy litigation practice. He replaces Robert Highsmith, who served as executive partner in Atlanta for six years. Mr. Highsmith will continue the focus of his practice on government relations.

“Since joining the firm, Allen has shown great leadership and enthusiasm for building our brand in Atlanta,” said Mr. Sonberg. “His ideas and energy will be a great benefit to our firm as we continue to expand and provide value to our clients.”

"I'm very excited to build on our recent successes in Atlanta, especially in the area of lateral recruiting," said Mr. Maines. "Holland & Knight has been one of the fastest growing law firms nationally, ranking 6th in 2013 lateral hires. We have an international platform, steady management, no debt, internal transparency, significant leadership opportunities available for laterals, and unparalleled career opportunities for associates.”

“The Atlanta office is full of new energy, especially in light of recent lateral additions including Woody Vaughan and Allison Dyer from King & Spalding in public finance, Jordan Stringer from King & Spalding in litigation, and Stefanie Box from Koch Industries and Georgia Pacific in mergers and acquisitions,” he said.

Mr. Maines joined Holland & Knight in early 2013 from Paul Hastings. He has extensive domestic and cross-border international experience in shareholder and consumer class action litigation, internal investigations, intellectual property matters, mass tort litigation, privacy issues, M&A litigation, and disputes between competitors. He is recognized as a top lawyer in the area of commercial litigation by Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers and Georgia Trend's Legal Elite. Mr. Maines also an alumnus of Leadership Atlanta.

Attorneys in the Atlanta office of Holland & Knight focus their representation of clients in the areas of commercial litigation, public and corporate finance and transactions, private wealth services, government advocacy, employment, and real estate.

The office has a reputation for civic leadership. Former Holland & Knight attorneys serve or have served as judges, leaders of multiple community and charitable organizations, and as mayor of Atlanta.
