Overview
Michael T. Amy is a maritime and international trade attorney in Holland & Knight's Washington, D.C., office. Mr. Amy helps clients navigate varied litigation under maritime law and provides regulatory advice related to international trade, with a particular focus on U.S. Shipping Act matters. Mr. Amy has extensive experience litigating maritime issues in state and federal courts, having handled cases from inception through trial and appeal.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Mr. Amy served as counsel to the chair and then-commissioner of the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), where he gained an in-depth knowledge of administrative proceedings before the FMC. He was also directly involved in promulgating key rulemakings mandated by the Ocean Shipping Reform Act of 2022 and developing international ocean shipping policy.
Previously, Mr. Amy was in private practice in New Orleans and served as a law clerk to the Honorable Greg Gerard Guidry of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
