Overview
Allison "Allie" Borgatti is an international white collar defense attorney in Holland & Knight's Philadelphia office. Ms. Borgatti assists corporations and individuals, domestic and foreign, in all facets and stages of federal, state and corporate compliance investigations.
Ms. Borgatti's practice focuses on white collar criminal defense, internal investigations and complex civil matters often related to criminal or quasi-criminal charges or fraudulent conduct. Drawing on extensive and varied litigation experience, Ms. Borgatti's clients include boards of directors, corporations and ultra-high-net-worth individuals who turn to her as counselor to chart and execute strategies to help solve their most sensitive legal issues. In this capacity, Ms. Borgatti is routinely selected to identify, engage and supervise experts and consultants retained during litigation or as part of a client's overall strategy. This often includes crisis management counsel, where Ms. Borgatti manages multidisciplinary teams, often including public relations professionals and investigators.
In her global practice, Ms. Borgatti helps clients navigate cross-border internal and government investigations. Ms. Borgatti has represented CEOs, chief financial officers, companies, boards and private clients in a variety of actions. She has vast experience handling internal investigations, government probes and complex civil complaints. Ms. Borgatti has defended clients in criminal and regulatory actions, including those involving allegations of insider trading, government contracting fraud and violations of securities laws and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Most notably, Ms. Borgatti has extensive experience involving matters related to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Office of Criminal Investigations, having received numerous favorable outcomes for many clients pertaining to complex investigations.
Ms. Borgatti's clients include Fortune 500 companies and their executives, as well as high-ranking government officials in matters such as insider training, healthcare fraud, illegal importation of FDA unregulated products, anti-corruption, economic sanctions and financial services fraud.
Ms. Borgatti has also carved out a niche representing oil and gas companies that have been investigated or indicted by state attorneys general regarding their business activities' alleged impact on the environment.
Clients appreciate Ms. Borgatti's multifaceted experience as a prosecutor and private practice defense counsel. Given the complexity and the severity of some of her clients' cases, she prides herself on being able to put her clients at ease and make them comfortable throughout the process. Ms. Borgatti has extensive courtroom experience, having tried more than 50 jury trials to verdict.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Borgatti was an attorney at a national law firm. She previously served as a homicide assistant district attorney at the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office.
While in law school, Ms. Borgatti served as articles editor of the Rutgers Journal of Law and Public Policy.
