Elizabeth "Lizzy" A. Garlovsky is a private wealth services attorney based in Holland & Knight's Chicago office. Ms. Garlovsky focuses her practice on estate planning and wealth transfer strategies for individuals and families, including assisting with probate and estate and trust administration matters.
With more than 20 years of combined experience in private practice, the public sector and as a wealth advisor for a multinational banking institution, Ms. Garlovsky is equipped to assist clients in preparing and implementing estate plans. She also helps both individual and corporate fiduciaries administer trusts and estates at any stage, including through controversies inside and outside of court. Ms. Garlovsky frequently counsels heirs, legatees and beneficiaries of estates and trusts of all sizes, advocating for their rights under will and trust documents or when no documents exist.
Along with her technical and practical background, Ms. Garlovsky brings a holistic and human approach to every client matter through empathy and a commitment to understanding each client's individual – and often very personal – situation before engaging in any representation. She understands the challenges clients often face when engaging trusts and estates counsel, particularly during emotionally difficult situations. She is committed to helping clients navigate these complexities with clarity and care, striving to simplify the process for those experiencing or anticipating stress related to trauma and loss.
Ms. Garlovsky is an active member in trusts and estates organizations and her community at large. She is a frequent lecturer and author on a wide range of trust and estate topics and is dedicated to mentoring junior colleagues. In addition, Ms. Garlovsky provides pro bono legal services and supports various charitable organizations by delivering estate planning and related legal assistance to underserved individuals in Chicago.
Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Ms. Garlovsky was an attorney at a national law firm focused on assisting clients define and achieve their private wealth goals.
